Southern Africa Regional Plan

About

Public Consultation Process
The Department for International Development (DFID) is producing a new regional plan for its work across Southern Africa.

Our previous Regional Plan 2006 – 2011, published in February 2006, set out the rationale for regional working and proposed a regional approach to tackling some of the challenges facing the area.

DFID’s new White Paper, Building Our Common Future, recognises the potential of working regionally in Africa for building strong growth. The UK has committed to doubling its funding for regional programmes in Africa to £1 billion over the next four years.

We are now beginning a process to develop our plans for 2011 and beyond, learning from and building on current foundations to deepen impact. The aim is to maximise the potential of regional working to support the reduction of poverty and tackle the challenges faced by the countries of Southern Africa.

The public consultation documents will be available to comment on this website from 11 November 2009. The public consultation process closes at midnight on Monday 18 January 2010.

All comments must be submitted before this deadline to be considered in the drafting of the regional plan.

You can make comments on the document itself or you can send your comments directly to SAregional@dfid.gov.uk and via post:

Regional Plan Consultation, DFID Southern Africa, 2nd Floor Sanlam Building, 353 Festival Street, Hatfield, Pretoria, South Africa.

The new regional plan will be published in early 2010.
